What Is API 5L X65 Spiral Welded Pipe？
API 5L X65 is a high-strength steel grade widely used for long-distance oil and gas transportation in the American Petroleum Institute (API) pipeline pipe standard. X65 represents the minimum yield strength of 65000 psi (approximately 448 MPa), corresponding to L450 in the metric system of API 5L. The yield strength of grade X is expressed in kilopounds per square inch (ksi), with higher values indicating higher steel strength.
Spiral Submerged Arc Welded (SSAW) pipe adopts narrow coil spiral forming and double-sided submerged arc welding process. Compared to seamless and straight seam welded pipes, spiral welded pipes have significant cost and efficiency advantages in the production of large-diameter (over 20 inches) pipelines: continuous coil feeding achieves higher dimensional consistency, spiral welds disperse circumferential stress, and improve the structural performance of pipelines under internal and external loads.
